8-9 YR. OLDS - 10 MIN. PER QUARTER
10-14 YR. OLDS - 12 MIN. PER QUARTER
ALL AGE DIVISIONS: ALL PLAYERS MUST PLAY 2 QUARTERS !
4-5 YR. OLDS: For the first half of the season players will get a second chance for throw ins. Second half they will only get one chance. Coach or helper should be on the field coaching. Please remember this is for learning more hands on and for fun. No goalies or referees are used.
6-7 YR. OLDS: Coaches should not be on the field. Coaches and helpers may stand behind the goal to help guide the players. Coaches and helpers also should not go past half field. Stay on your own half; this is distracting to the team. Please remember this is for fun.
8-9 YR. OLDS: Coaches should not be on the field. Coaches may NOT stand behind the goal. Also it is up to coaches to be sure their parents are not standing there either. Coaches should not go past half field. Explain off sides. Try to have players comply with it. Offside will be called if intentional.
10-14 YR. OLDS: Coaches should not go past half field. Coaches should not be on the field or behind the goals. Please do not make derogatory remarks to your team OR the other team. Goalies should play their position, not come out as a player and not sit down on the field if they are bored. This is unsportsman-like behavior. If a goalie comes out of his/her 18-yd box to be a field player a PK will be issued! This is a recreational league and we want the children to have fun playing – ALL the children. Also remember the referees are not perfect. If you have a problem with them please be civil to them. If you have more concerns see a director. Referees are children too and should not be treated improper.
BEFORE EACH GAME: Children should warm up before each game and stretch. If a game is being played on the field, warm-ups can be done off the
Fields. The referees will need all players to line up to be checked for jewelry, hard hair pieces, sharp cleats, mouth pieces for braces, shin guards are covered. Captains should be assigned for a coin toss to determine who takes the ball first & which side each team takes. Teams shall exchange goal lines at half time.
GAME BEGINS: Each team will take the field with 11 players on the field for 8-14 yr. olds, 8 players per side for the 6-7 yr. olds, 4 players per side for the 4-5 yr. olds. Ball will be placed in the center of the field for the kick off. Referee will ask each team’s goalie if they are ready (except in 4/5, where there are no goalies or referees. There is 2 minutes between quarters with a 5-minute break at half time.
WHISTLE: Will be blown if a player falls near the ball. This is called a dangerous play; a child could be hurt if kicked. The ball will be placed on the field for a direct kick, by the team that did not have the dangerous play, where the whistle was blown. The referee does not stop the clock, so you want to move right away. When the ball goes out of bounds, the team that did not touch it last will have the throw in at the point where the ball left the field.
OFFSIDES: This is only called in the 10-14 age groups. However offside should start being practiced and explained to players in the younger age groups. If intentional offside is being practiced in the younger age groups a verbal warning will be issued from the referee. Second offense shall be called.
INJURY: If a player is injured the play may be stopped. If the injured player is not near the play the whistle may not be blown immediately, so as not to take the advantage away from the team with the ball. PLEASE DO NOT SCREAM AT THE REFS ABOUT THIS CALL! If the injured player requires extra time the clock will be stopped.
SUBSTITUTIONS: Either team may substitute between periods, goal kick, when a goal is scored, corner, offside. The referee must be notified of all substitutions.
INCLEMENT WEATHER: Weather changes so frequently around here, that on game day plan on playing. If it rains too hard once at the field that you can not see the goal posts the referee shall call the game. If the referee sees lightning the game shall be called. Sometimes lightning is far off and if your back is turned to it may not be seen. A director is at the fields at all times and shall also be sure the games are cancelled during inclement weather, this is not just left up to a young referee.
BEHAVIOR: Remember the players look to the coaches for guidance and learning. They will watch the coach’s behavior when they interact during the game with their teammates, opposing coaches, opposing players and the referees. Sometimes calls don’t go the way we want them, however screaming at referees doesn’t change anything, except the player’s perception of how to act. Please let all parents know not to park in the
